(More customer reviews)As another reviewer stated, these lenses are built well. They come with their own pleather carrying case and lens caps, which is nice. If you want, you can even thread a 58mm (or possibly 62mm) filter on the other end. The lenses themselves are "multi-coated" simply meaning that they have an Anti-Reflective coating put on them to reduce ghosting and lens flare. The glass appears very clear to the naked eye, and the overall build quality is excellent.
Now for the performance. If you have a dSLR camera and your only lens is a "standard" 18mm-55mm focal length, this telephoto attachment should work for you. However, the clarity of the lens is less than perfect. Even when focused as perfectly as possible, there is still a little softness to the image, however, it DOES magnify the image as stated. There is also a little bit of chromatic and barrel distortion around the periphery of the image at 55mm (82mm in 35mm equivalent).
If you are trying to use this lens with a longer telephoto zoom lens, you will be disappointed. The focal length of this 2x adapter is shorter than most telephoto zooms. By that, I mean that you can probably focus it with up to about a 100mm (original) lens (give or take). But if you try to use it with a 200mm telephoto zoom, you will find that you cannot focus it at all. In fact, through some experimentation, I discovered that by moving the adapter about 5" away from the end of the camera lens at 200mm, the focus point then moved to the middle of the focus range and I could then take a picture. However, at this distance, the barrel distortion became so great that the picture was unusable. Also, the fuzziness that was mentioned at the shorter focal length lens is also magnified with the longer lens.
In conclusion, I would say that if you only have a "standard" zoom lens, or a short telephoto lens, this adapter will work for you, albeit in a limited manner. If however you are expecting to multiply an already long tele-zoom lens to 300mm or more, don't waste your money.

(More customer reviews)I dont like to give negative reviews, but this was one of the worst purchases I have ever made. I researched to make sure that it was compatible with my nikkon d50 before I ordered it.
I like the tripod and the accessories, but the zoom lense itself is worthless. I cant get a clear picture out of it and no matter what level I zoom in or out, the picture is muddled.
I was told camera equipment is not returnable, so I chalked it up as a bad choice and a business loss.
Would not recommend this unless you can try it with your camera first.

The tripod is very flimsy but functional, it has a quick relese that works fine. Overall very cheap tripod that does the job.
The lens so far has produced garbage pictures that get worse with the use of the 2X converter. Maybe it's me, maybe it's not, it's a manual lens and it needs tons of light.
The service from Cameta was perfect, will buy from them again with no concerns at all.

(More customer reviews)I hesitated purchasing this lens for my Nikon D40X--probably looked at this listing six or seven times before making the purchase. Truthfully I was worried about how inexpensive it is. Now, I'm probably a pretty average amateur photographer in that the majority of my pictures are family stuff: kids' sporting events, vacations, birthdays, and the like. But that doesn't mean I'm willing to compromise on quality just to save some money, and I know that the Nikon 55-200 is a quality lens.
But, I purchased based on Michael Del Priore's review (his was the only review at the time)--I figured, at this price (especially when compared to the Nikon 55-200), why not give it a shot, and I'm glad I did.
This is an excellent lens. The auto focus motor is fast and doesn't chew up the battery (I was concerned about that, but I shot almost 170 pictures at my son's games two Saturdays ago and didn't use any more battery than the Nikon 35-70 lens that came with the camera). Like "cinderoo" I haven't had any stabilization issues to speak of either, even snapping away while following 12 year old boys run the length of a field. That may be more of an issue with macro photography, but I'd imagine most of the (admittedly limited) macro photography I'd do would probably be with a tripod anyway.
Now, no one would mistake me for a professional photographer, but I can tell you that when I pull up photos shot with my D40X and this Sigma lens on my 24" iMac and view them full screen they are *everything* I was looking for when I decided to move to an SLR camera.

(More customer reviews)I've been reading mixed reviews on the Opteks lens for a while, for the price I thought I take a chance. It performs as expected. The zoom mechanism is a tube near the camera that slides, it's not smooth and a little clunky to do, but it works. I don't use the double much, don't really need it, and it does not fit in the bag with it attached to the lens (I think this is a flaw and the bag should have been larger) and there is no separate bag for the doubler - rather then take the chance of dust getting in the lens from screwing and unscrewing the adapter from the lens then attaching the doubler and screwing back on the adapter to the doubler, I just don't use it much. You have to take your time on focusing as it is very sensitive. You are able to handhold it at 650mm (just bearly) but at any other zoom level you must have a good tripod to hold it. This lens is HUGE. I would recommend this lens for nature or senic photography, but it's not fast enough (f8-f16) to use if for any movement and it would be hard to focus on anything moving rapidly.
