(More customer reviews)OK, it was not a lot of money, but a few dollars for something worthless is still a waste of money. Using a superlative such as "Professional" for this item just shows you how overused and meaningless these terms have become.
I bought this hood for my Nikkor 50mm F1.8 lens. Why Nikon doesn't supply a ten-cent lens hood is amazing to me.
The lens hood screws into the body via it's filter threads. OK, so you can't use a filter with the hood - but I knew that. Then there is another plastic screw-thread collar ring clamp on the hood's filter thread that screws down on the lens that is supposed to hold the hood in place, so that it does not turn and vignette the lens with one of the petals.
But it's so cheap that the collar won't stay in place. When you attempt to tighten the collar ring, it skips a thread. I don't think there is such a thing as part tolerance on this item. I think perhaps that after I get the collar correctly in place, a bit of glue may be in order to keep it there.
I do have to say though, that the lens cap seems to lock into the hood - at least the Nikon cap.
