It's well made, and includes a circular bubble level on the plane of the mounting plate - a rarity for anything in this price range. The mounting plate is equivalent to the standard Manfrotto RC2, so if you use the RC2 it will fit right into this ball head. (Note: a spare RC2 costs just a few pennies less than this entire ball head. Buy this head and you get a spare "RC2" included.) The ball head also includes the typical Manfrotto-style safety lock (a retractable pin that keeps you from accidentally releasing the plate-holding lever) and the spring-loaded lever lock (that keeps the lever in the OPEN position allowing you to quickly attach the camera/plate without having to hold the lock open). I love the Manfrotto products, but this unit has all the features you could desire in a small ball head at 1/3rd the price.
Regarding the mounting threads... this unit uses the standard 3/8"-16 common to all tripods and monopods that expect a HEAD. 1/4" is the standard CAMERA thread. Many monopods are meant to hold the camera directly without a head. If your camera mounts directly to your monopod then you'll need an adapter bushing as mentioned by other reviewers. Even if you need to add the bushing, this is still a great head for the price.
