(More customer reviews)I purchached this laptop to use in my truck for estimating & sales. My past latitude's screen hinges kept on breaking & i got tired of repairing. Overall, I like the xfr's toughness, it is a tank. It is a bit heavy bit I guess that's the price to pay for an indestructible unit. The screen is very bright and a pleasure to see outdoors. I also like the fingerprint reader but wonder if it even makes sence to use for security since it gives you the option to enter password if unable to read the print. The handle is also a nice option, I often find myself grabbing the laptop when parking the truck and easilly carrying it with me.
Some cons: I've been having an issue with the sound. When a cd is in the drive the sound is completely distorted. I will be shipping the laptop back to dell in the near future to address this problem - my warranty is good until 2011. Overall, the sound is terrible. This laptop is definately not designed for a multimedia experience. Since the entire laptop is waterproofed, the sound is behind closed doors unless all of the waterproof covers are opened. Even when the covers are all open I have trouble hearing anything with the volume all the way up. bOne of the biggest problems I see with this unit is the fact that the cooling fans air intake is on the far left underside of the unit. When placing this "laptop" on your lap, your leg will prevent any air from entering the fan and the unit will start screeming for air. What kind of genius would design a laptop this way? I find myself positioning the laptop off center on my legs so that the left side hangs off of my leg - very annoying! Also, for some reason, this laptop gets extremely HOT underneath. I would not reccomend using it on your lap for more then 30minutes unless you want to warm up your legs.
For the price, I think that this laptop has a very poor design. It is over the top expensive and I expected a top quality machine all the way around.
