(More customer reviews)I wanted to try a different eyecup on my Nikon D300. I was tired of smushing my nose agianst the LCD Screen to get my eye to the eyecup. I tried out a Canon 7D and really liked how the eyecup stuck out further from the back of the camera so i thought i would try to replicate that on my D300 with a new eyecup.
After searching the web i found 2 seemingly good options. The fotodiox and the hoodman eyecups. Not knowing which i would like i ordered one of each.
When i received them i thought at first glance that i would prefer the Fotodiox due to the size of the Hoodman. The Hoodman is pretty large. It covers some of the top of the LCD screen when attached. However, after mounting and testing both, the Hoodman was the clear winner.
The Fotodiox eyecup was not comfortable to use at all. It is shaped more like a cup with edges that press directly into your face. It reminds me of the way one of those eyeflush cups feels. It was also very flimsy feeling when trying to position it on the eye it would bend and shift.
The Hoodman is large but it works great. The hoodman is flat where it presses against your face. It forms to your face just right and blocks out the surrounding light and allows you to really focus on your composition. It does take a little getting used to the size but once you do you won't want to remove it from your camera.
